THE MISSION
Giving a Voice to the Non-Verbal
Ronald McGill
Author & Autism
The devastating diagnosis, AUTISM:
Three Royal Terrace.
Three Royal Terrace was written through the eyes of my autistic son. He has no spontaneous language, thus I was "giving him a voice"! It conveys not only his challenges but also, the frequent anguish for his three siblings and his parents.
It was inspired by the film The Accountant. Its early sequences showed the central character, in his childhood's 'low functioning' and uncontrollable state, just like Roddy was. Unlike in the film, Roddy remains 'low functioning' - he still has no spontaneous language. However, he understands!
The book also compelled a serious investigation into my own early years. Much and even more was revealed, including that fundamental betrayal - a mother to her son.
